Somalia, 1 December 2025 — Somali Police Force Commander Asad Osman Abdullahi today hosted Kestutis Lancinskas, Head of the EUCAP Office in Somalia, at the Police Darawiish Center in Mogadishu.
According to Somali Police, the meeting discussed the ongoing preparations for the country's one-person, one-vote elections.
Commander Abdullahi stated that the Darawiish units, trained in legal frameworks and operational procedures, play a crucial role in citizen protection, checkpoint management, and law enforcement.
The units are expected to play a vital role in ensuring security during the upcoming elections, with over one million citizens already registered to vote.

EUCAP Somalia, a European Union civilian mission established in 2012 and rebranded in 2016, has been supporting Somali security institutions for years. The mission's key focus areas include police development, maritime security, and strengthening the rule of law. With its main office in Mogadishu and field offices in Puntland and Somaliland, EUCAP Somalia also operates a back-office in Nairobi, Kenya.
As part of its ongoing support, the European Union has extended EUCAP Somalia's mandate through February 2027, with a current budget allocation of $128m (€110m) for the period between 2025 and 2027.
The extension underscores the EU’s commitment to supporting Somalia's security sector during this critical period.
