(Dawan Africa) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has publicly acknowledged the United States’ role in supporting Somalia’s efforts against terrorism, emphasizing the significance of international partnerships in a recorded message delivered to the Somali diaspora during Independence Day commemorations in US.
“I would especially like to thank the United States for its prominent role in the fight against terrorism,” the President said. “Our cooperation has resulted in tangible progress in weakening the extremist networks that have posed a threat to Somalia and the Horn of Africa.”
The President pointed to continued military collaboration, including training, equipment, and strategic advice, which he said has bolstered Somalia’s capacity to respond to security threats. He also extended thanks to partner countries that have provided humanitarian, political, and economic support throughout Somalia’s state-building journey.
“You have supported us through the most difficult times,” President Hassan noted. “From humanitarian aid to rebuilding democracy, ensuring security, and advancing economic development – your support is a pillar of our journey towards recovery and nation-building.”
In addition to addressing international partners, the President directed part of his message to Somali youth abroad, praising their achievements and encouraging them to take an active role in Somalia’s development.
