Ethiopia, 28 October 2025 — The Government of Japan, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has donated a mobile health clinic to the Somali Regional State (SRS) to strengthen healthcare services for communities living in remote areas.
The handover ceremony took place at the SRS Health Bureau headquarters in Jigjiga on Monday and was attended by the Regional Health Minister, Muse Ahmed Ibrahim, officials from the SRS Finance Bureau, representatives from the Japanese Embassy, and UNFPA staff.
The state-of-the-art mobile clinic is designed to provide integrated healthcare services, with a particular focus on maternal and child health.
It will regularly serve nomadic communities in areas that are otherwise difficult to reach.
Speaking at the event, Ibrahim described the donation as a major boost to the region’s healthcare delivery.
“We are grateful to the Government of Japan, its people, and UNFPA for responding to our request and needs. We hope this health partnership will continue to grow,” he said.
The donation is part of efforts to expand access to healthcare services for underserved populations, ensuring equitable and sustainable medical care across the regional state.
