A high-level delegation, led by Mr. Mustafa Omar, the President of Ethiopia's Somali Region, arrived in the Jarati district of the Afdheer region on Tuesday to assess the impact of the river flood on the community.
Accompanying the President were Engineer Mohammed Shalle Issack, the regional Head of the Prosperity Party, Mr. Ahmed Yasin Sh. Ibrahim, the regional Minister of Disaster Risk Management, and several other top government officials.
The delegation gathered details regarding the extent of the damage caused by the overflow of the Weeb river in the region, which displaced thousands of people.
The affected families emphasized the urgent need for more aid, as the number of affected families continues to rise with escalating floods.
On Monday, the delegation visited Dollo-Addo District in Liibaan region to assess the impact of the river flood on the community in the region.
During the visit, the delegation toured the neighbourhoods affected by the flooding of the Ganalle and Dawa rivers, leading to the displacement of over 10,000 families, as reported by local authorities.
The officials also inspected the areas where the displaced people were relocated and assessed their living conditions to determine the necessary assistance.
The district administration reported that significant assistance was provided to the displaced families, including support from the government, the district administration, and donor agencies.
According to regional authorities, at least 15 people have lost their lives, and over 11,000 have been displaced from their homes due to the heavy rains.
