Somalia and Ethiopia Forge Stronger Cooperation on AUSSOM

Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia and Ethiopia have solidified their partnership to enhance political, security, and regional stability, particularly in advancing the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

High-Level Delegation Visit

On January 3, 2025, Ethiopia’s Minister of Defense, H.E. Aisha Mohammed, led a high-level delegation to Mogadishu, where they were warmly received by Somalia’s Minister of Defense, H.E. Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur. The visit follows the Ankara Declaration signed in December 2024, which laid the groundwork for enhanced collaboration between the two neighboring nations.

Key Agreements

In a press release, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of bilateral and multilateral discussions to finalize AUSSOM’s structure. The Somali government reaffirmed its commitment to honoring prior agreements and expressed readiness to consider Ethiopia’s request to contribute forces to AUSSOM.
