Uganda, 15 October 2025 — Somalia and Azerbaijan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) granting visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic passports from both countries. The agreement aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and enhance bilateral cooperation.
The MoU was signed on Wednesday by Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar, and Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samir Sharifov. The signing took place on the sidelines of the 9th Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala, held between October 13th and 16th.
The ceremony was attended by Hamza Adan Haadoow, Permanent Secretary of Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Fardowsa Mohamed Qanyare Afrah, Somalia’s Ambassador to Uganda, and other senior officials from both countries.
During the meeting, the ministers also discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation, explore joint initiatives of mutual interest, and strengthen diplomatic relations, reflecting the growing partnership between Somalia and Azerbaijan.
