Somalia, 17 November 2025 — Somalia’s National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has called on domestic and international observers to take an active role in monitoring all stages of the country’s upcoming elections.
In a statement released late Sunday, the Commission said enhanced observation is essential for ensuring the credibility of Somalia’s planned one-person-one-vote elections and for meeting the required timelines.
“The Commission urges stakeholders, civil society organisations, political groups, international institutions and regional bodies — including the UN, AU, EU, IGAD, the Arab League, OIC and Somalia’s international partners — to actively participate in observing all electoral activities across the country to guarantee transparency and accountability,” the NIEBC said.

The Commission also appealed to political actors to create an environment that supports political consensus, prepare the necessary funding for electoral operations, and strengthen security arrangements for the polls.
The call comes as Somalia continues to face political disagreements over the format of the national elections, with less than seven months remaining before the constitutional end of the terms of the President and Parliament.
