Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-A film displaying the role played by the Government of Djibouti in the reconstruction of Somalia, with a primary focus on the Arta Conference in 2000, was showcased in Mogadishu on Friday in a remarkable event commemorating Djibouti's vital role.
The event was attended by Somalia's Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, speakers of the Somali Parliament, MPs, Senators, several federal ministers, and a high-level delegation from the government of Djibouti, led by the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowment, Mumin Hassan Barre, along with ministers and Djiboutian MPs.
Abdifatah Jeyte, a member of the team that produced the film, stated that their purpose in creating this film was to educate future generations about Djibouti's role in Somalia's reconstruction.
"We decided to make this film to educate and show the Somali people, especially the youth, the importance of the Arta meeting in rebuilding our Government," said Mr. Abdifatah Jeyte.
Djibouti's Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowment, Mumin Hassan Barre, elaborated on the commitment and role played by President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti. He emphasized the president's speech at the UN security meeting in September 1999.
"President Ismail Omar Guelleh delivered a historic speech at the United Nations Security Assembly, tackling the urgent need to reconcile the Somali people and rebuild the Somali government. He revealed his plan to convene the Arta Conference, a gathering aimed at achieving a functional government in Somalia, and sought international community support in facilitating the process," stated Mr. Mumin Hassan Barre, Djibouti's Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowment.
Somalia's Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, acknowledged President Guelleh's integral role in rebuilding a functional Somali government.
"Despite the complexity of the situation and the challenges, President Ismail Omar, as a visionary leader, highlighted the need for reconciliation and building a functional government for Somalia," said Prime Minister Hamza.
He emphasized the mutual relationships between the two governments and the interdependence of Somalis and Djiboutians.
"President Guelleh recognized that the problems in Somalia would impact Djibouti's government due to the close relationship and interdependence between our governments and people," he added.
The Somali government has collapsed on January 21, 1991, which led to the start of a prolonged and devastating civil war.
During this difficult period, Somalia faced a highly complex and challenging situation, with divisions among various factions and widespread civil unrest across the country, resulting to widespread destruction of crucial government institutions.
Several attempts were made to initiate meetings aimed at reconciliation and rebuilding the Somali government. However, all efforts to reconcile and rebuilf the Somali government went futile.
The government of Djibouti, led by President Ismail Omar Guelleh, convened a meeting in Arta Town, bringing together at least 4,000 Somali leaders and key figures to discuss the potential realization of a peaceful Somalia with a functional government.
Through this conference, reconciliation among Somali communities and factional groups was successfully achieved, leading to the establishment of a transitional Government and the formation of the 4.5 resource-sharing system.
