Mogadishu, Somalia (Dawan Africa) – The Federal Republic of Somalia has strongly condemned the Iranian missile strike against Qatar, calling it a direct violation of international law and a dangerous escalation of regional tensions.
In a press statement released on Monday night, Somalia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed its deepest concern over Iran's actions. "The Federal Republic of Somalia condemns and denounces, in the strongest terms, the heinous act of aggression launched by the Islamic Republic of Iran against the sisterly State of Qatar," the statement read, emphasizing the importance of adherence to international law and the protection of civilians. "Somalia reiterates its firm position in support of the sovereignty of the sisterly State of Qatar and affirms its full support for the measures it is taking to preserve its security and stability," the statement continued.
Former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed also weighed in on the matter, condemning the attack and calling for restraint. "I condemn in the strongest possible terms the aggression launched by Iran against Somalia’s sisterly State of Qatar, which constitutes a blatant violation of international law and the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states," Ahmed stated on June 24, 2025. He further emphasized that the attack was unacceptable and unjustifiable, adding that "the people of my country (Somalia) were gravely alarmed by the use of force." The former president also urged all parties involved to seek diplomacy and return to the negotiating table to prevent further escalation.
Additionally, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, who resides in Doha, voiced his condemnation of the attack in a tweet. "I strongly condemn the Iranian aggression against Qatar that took place today. Launching missiles at the peaceful State of Qatar is a violation of international law. It also risks further escalating existing regional and global tensions. Iran must refrain from these illegal acts," President Farmajo wrote.
This coordinated condemnation reflects Somalia’s unwavering stance in support of Qatar’s sovereignty and security amidst increasing regional volatility. As global powers express concern, the call for de-escalation remains critical for peace in the region.
