Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) –The Somali government officially introduced its ambitious Vision 2060 (CV2060) on Monday, a national blueprint designed to steer the country toward lasting peace, economic prosperity, and stability. This momentous occasion coincides with Somalia’s centennial celebration of independence, signaling a fresh chapter in the nation’s development journey.

The unveiling ceremony, which took place in Mogadishu, saw the participation of key figures, including President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, various government ministers, civil society leaders, and international partners. Vision 2060 represents a bold and forward-thinking roadmap that aims to guide Somalia towards self-sufficiency and good governance over the next 35 years.
In his remarks, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stressed that Vision 2060 is more than just a plan – it is a long-term commitment to securing a brighter future for all Somalis. "Today, we’re choosing to move past our challenges and focus on creativity and collaboration. This vision is not just about the present; it’s about building a bridge to a better tomorrow, one that connects our current efforts with the rewards that lie ahead," President Hassan shared.

First presented by the President in January 2023, Vision 2060 lays the groundwork for Somalia’s future development, with the National Economic Council overseeing its execution. The plan is built around three core pillars:
• Security and Defense: Strengthening the national defense forces to protect the country’s borders and combat terrorist threats, including groups like Al-Shabaab and Daesh.
• State Building: Enhancing Somalia’s democratic processes, elections, and the Constitution while improving critical public services in health, education, and humanitarian support.
• Economic Growth: Focusing on sustainable development and financial independence, aiming to elevate Somalia’s economic status and secure a higher-income future within 35 years.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre added that Vision 2060 is integral to the government’s broader national transformation. "This vision is built around seven national plans, each lasting five years, with the ultimate goal of transforming Somalia into a unified, prosperous, and peaceful nation. By 2060, we aim to see Somalia among the top middle-income countries," said Prime Minister Hamza.
The international community has expressed strong support for Somalia’s vision and remains committed to assisting the government in reaching these ambitious goals.
The two-day launch event, which concludes tomorrow, marks an important milestone in Somalia’s ongoing journey towards peace, prosperity, and a self-reliant future.
