Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – The Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Federal Government of Somalia has officially announced that the services it provides will now be linked to the National Identification Card system. This decision follows a directive from the Cabinet on April 7, 2025, which mandated that all public services be tied to the National ID Card issued by the National Registration and Identification Authority (NIRA).
In a statement released by the Ministry, it was emphasized that the move will impact individuals and companies seeking to register, renew, or obtain various business licenses from the Ministry.
“All shareholders of companies, individuals seeking to register a business or trademark, individuals wishing to amend business laws, and those applying for business licenses must obtain the National ID Card from NIRA,” the Ministry’s statement read.
This initiative is part of the broader National Transformation Plan, which was approved in March 2025. The plan aims to bolster the country’s economy and business sector while curbing fraud and corruption in identification services.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry is the second government entity to require the use of the National ID Card for business-related services, following the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, which issued a similar directive on June 26, 2025.
