Somalia, September 24, 2025 – Somalia’s National Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (NIEBC) has officially announced the registration of 18 new political parties, all of which have met the legal requirements necessary to join the country's recognized political organizations.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Commission confirmed the new parties have fully complied with the country’s legal frameworks, including the electoral body formation law, the political party law, and the general election law of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The Commission said: “The NEC is informing the Somali people about the list of political parties in Somalia that have benefited from the reopening of the political party registration process.”

The registration process was reopened on August 23, 2025, and closed on September 6, 2025, according to the Commission, following an agreement reached between a faction of the Somali Salvation Forum and the government.
The 18 newly registered political parties now join 43 previously recognized parties, bringing the total number of officially recognized political organizations in Somalia to 61.
