Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s Minister of Finance, Bihi Iman Egeh, has firmly rejected claims made by former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khayre that nearly half a billion dollars in donor funds were returned due to failed projects.
Speaking at a Ministry of Finance event on Thursday, Minister Egeh dismissed the allegations as baseless.
“There has never been half a billion dollars in donor funding returned from Somalia to the donors,” he said.
The Finance Minister emphasized that his ministry is fully accountable for external funds and development projects, stressing that Khayre’s statements have “no basis in fact.”
According to Egeh, Somalia currently oversees 24 World Bank–funded projects worth $2.7 billion and 22 African Development Bank projects valued at nearly $245 million, all of which are ongoing.
He underscored that Somalia’s financial management system continues to operate in line with international standards, despite opposition criticism.
