Somalia, 29 November 2025 – The Drought Relief Committee of the North East State of Somalia today dispatched teams to assess the impact of the ongoing drought in the region.
The teams have been tasked with conducting comprehensive evaluations of the needs in the affected districts, where reports indicate deteriorating health conditions and severe water shortages.
Adan Jama Muse, Minister of Health and a member of the Drought Relief Committee, stated that some areas hit by the drought have experienced outbreaks of diseases, with two reported fatalities linked to the situation.

"We have sent teams to the Sool, Sanaag, and Togdheer regions, which are very important to us. We want a thorough assessment to be made of every village, district, and camp where people reside. We are already receiving reports from some towns of cases of diarrhoea, and two people have died in a village near Taleh," said Adan.
The Drought Relief Committee, which was appointed on Thursday consists of nine members from the Council of Ministers.
North East State of Somalia had previously declared that the region is facing a drought due to insufficient rainfall, and requested urgent aid to address the crisis.
