Somalia, 30 January 2026 The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, and Djibouti’s Finance Minister; Elyas Moussa Dawaleh, met in Mogadishu on Thursday to discuss cooperation in trade and investment between the two neighbouring countries.
Prime Minister Hamza briefed the Minister progress Somalia has made in economic growth, public finance reforms and revenue generation.
Prime Minister Hamza emphasized that Somalia is prioritizing investment, particularly in minerals, electricity, and production, which could help the Horn of Africa region achieve economic self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on foreign aid.

On his part, Djibouti’s Minister of Finance highlighted the importance of accelerating financial cooperation between the two countries and boosting trade and investment in the region.
Elyas Moussa Dawaleh, who visited Somalia to attend the 27th Horn of Africa Initiative (HAI) Forum hosted in Mogadishu, stated that Somalia has made significant progress in economic growth and revenue generation.
This cooperation is expected to further strengthen the economic ties between Somalia and Djibouti, while also enhancing development and investment opportunities in the region.
