Somalia, 3 October 2025 – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has accused opposition leaders of failing to articulate a clear political agenda, saying their aim is to cause chaos and division in the country.
Speaking during Friday prayers at the presidential mosque, President Mohanud said political disagreement is normal, but becomes a problem when leaders do not offer alternatives.
“Leaders and politicians are known for what they oppose, but what they actually want is not known – that is the problem,” he said.
The president stressed that the government’s position is defined in the constitution and national laws, and urged opposition politicians to publicly clarify their stand on issues.
He further criticized what he described as “one-man politicians” opposed to institutionalising Somali politics through party systems.
The President said some opposition leaders’ views had been considered in past political processes, but warned that constant shifting of positions without a structured vision undermines stability.
Hassan also referenced a recent incident in which opposition figures went to Warta Nabadda police station in Mogadishu, calling it unacceptable behavior.
“I urge those elder politicians not to allow such acts to happen again,” he said, adding that the situation was contained because police at the station acted with restraint helping to de-escalate issues.
