Somalia, 2 November 2025 — Puntland officials have reiterated strict enforcement of the seasonal lobster fishing ban along the region’s coast, emphasizing that no exemptions have been granted.
The joint directive, issued on Saturday, by the Ministries of Fisheries, Environment, Interior, Commerce, and the Puntland Police Commission, remains in effect from September 1 to December 31, 2025. Authorities stressed that any violation of the order will result in criminal prosecution.
Puntland’s Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Abdirisaaq Abdulaahi Haga, said:“No permissions or exemptions have been granted by Puntland authorities at either the central or local level. Therefore, anyone who violates this order will face legal action."
The directive also reinforced that lobster exports from Puntland’s ports and airports are prohibited until April 30, 2026, with strict penalties for violations.

Officials explained that the ban aligns with national policies and international conservation laws, protecting lobsters during their breeding season, when populations are not commercially viable.
Authorities urged fishermen, traders, and local officials to comply fully with the ban to safeguard marine biodiversity and secure long-term economic benefits for coastal communities.
