Somalia, 13 November 2025 — The President of South West State of Somalia, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, on Wednesday issued a peace appeal to communities involved in clashes in Wala-weyn district, Lower Shabelle region.
In a video published by his presidency, Laftagareen described the violence over the past week as “unacceptable” and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to restore peace and social cohesion.
“I want to send a peace message to the people of Wala-weyn and surrounding areas, following the tragic events that have unfolded over the past seven days,” Laftagareen said.

He condemned the burning of homes and loss of life as acts that cannot be tolerated, emphasizing that the people of South West State will not accept clan-based fighting, especially given ongoing drought, humanitarian challenges, and fight against Al-Shabaab.
Recent clashes in Wala-weyn have involved local clans, resulting in casualties and property destruction, further straining an already fragile local community.
