Somalia, 26 November 2025 - Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi ‘Irro’ has appealed for immediate action to address the deepening drought crisis, calling on the Somaliland administration to donate $1 million to the national drought committee.
He made the remarks while closing the Somaliland Health Financing Conference on Tuesday, warning that the drought is intensifying and affecting multiple regions, placing growing pressure on livelihoods and driving displacement.
“I am calling on the government to donate $1 million to the drought committee.” He said.

The president also urged the international community and the public to support ongoing response efforts, stressing the need for coordinated intervention through the drought committee and relevant institutions.
Somaliland is among the Somali territories facing severe drought following the failure of the Gu rains between April and June, with growing fears that the Deyr season may also fall short or be significantly reduced, further straining pastoral and farming communities.
