Somaliland, 14 October 2025 — The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi ‘Cirro’, and several members of his cabinet departed today for Ethiopia for a working visit, the state broadcaster, Somaliland National Television (SLNTV), reported.
The presidential delegation includes: Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdirahman Daahir Aadan “Bakaal”, Minister of Presidential Affairs Qadar Hussein Abdi Looge, Minister of Finance Abdullahi Hassan Aadan, Minister of Investment Siciid Mohamed Buraale Csaraale, and Minister of Public Works Hussein Ahmed Caydiid.
According to SLNTV, the purpose of the visit is to strengthen cooperation in the areas of economy, investment, and regional development between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
The trip recalls the visit made by former President Muse Bihi Abdi in January 2024, during which he signed a controversial maritime access agreement with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, a deal that sparked widespread political debate in the Horn of Africa.
President Cirro’s visit to Ethiopia comes just one day after returning from his longest foreign trip since taking office. He recently visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a combination of official and personal reasons, where he attended the Africa Debate Forum and held meetings with investors and members of the Somaliland diaspora community.
The trip to Addis Ababa reflects Somaliland’s ongoing efforts to deepen its political and economic engagement with regional partners, particularly Ethiopia, with whom it maintains close strategic relations.
