Burao (Dawan Africa) – Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Irro,” the President of Somaliland, on Wednesday inaugurated a series of development projects in Burao, in what his office described as efforts to improve youth facilities, infrastructure, and public services in the region.
He officially opened 19 kilometers of newly paved roads constructed by the Burao Municipality to ease urban traffic. “It is a great milestone that today we are opening 19 kilometers of tarmac roads built inside Burco,” Irro said, commending the local administration’s work.
Irro also laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction and modernization of Alamsey Stadium, a landmark football venue in Burao, which he said would serve as an important hub for sports and community life.
In addition, he launched a decentralization initiative aimed at expanding access to key administrative services in eastern Somaliland, including passports, birth certificates, driver’s licenses, business permits, work authorizations, and education certificates.
His office described the initiative as a “strategic step” to strengthen efficiency, cut costs for citizens, and expand participation of all regions in governance. Irro called on agencies involved to ensure the services are delivered professionally and transparently.
