Somaliland has announced tougher measures to tackle the increasing number of traffic accidents, emphasizing stricter enforcement of road safety laws. The move follows alarming statistics that highlight the growing toll of reckless driving on lives and property.

Attorney General Abdirahman Jama Haybe has issued clear instructions to regional prosecution offices, mandating legal action against all drivers involved in traffic-related offenses. The directives emphasize that offenders will face court proceedings without exception unless they fulfill all required legal obligations.

Penalties include imprisonment, fines, and the suspension or revocation of driving licenses, aiming to ensure accountability and enhance safety on Somaliland's roads.

Official data reveals that Somaliland recorded 7,018 traffic accidents last year alone, leading to numerous deaths, injuries, and significant property damage. The scale of these incidents has prompted the government to take decisive action to curb the trend and mitigate future risks.
