Ceel Afweyn, Sanaag – Somaliland Vice President Maxamed Cali Aw Cabdi officially inaugurated the Ceel Afweyn National Peace Conference, aimed at finding a lasting solution to the recurring conflicts in the region.
The conference, held at Masjid Jaamaca in Ceel Afweyn, was organized by the Somaliland Peace Committee, focusing on strengthening peace and fostering a formal agreement between warring clans.
The Vice President praised the committee’s commitment and perseverance in resolving the conflict in Ceel Afweyn.
Government Pledges to Implement the Agreement
The Vice President emphasized that peace is the foundation of social development, urging all parties to work sincerely towards ensuring stability in the region.

The Ceel Afweyn conflict has had a significant impact on the Sanaag region and Somaliland as a whole. Due to its importance, Somaliland is determined to ensure a long-term resolution to the disputes.
The peace conference is expected to last several days, with the aim of producing formal resolutions that will ensure stability and peaceful coexistence among local clans.
Ceel Afweyn, located in the Sanaag region, has experienced recurring clan conflicts over the years. Since 2015, the area has witnessed violent clashes related to land disputes, water scarcity, and political rivalries.
Somaliland has pledged that any agreements reached during the conference will be fully implemented to secure lasting peace in the region.
