President Abdiaziz Laftagareen of the South West State of #Somalia has confirmed his participation in the upcoming National Consultation Council (NCC) meeting in #Mogadishu, set for September 25. This decision follows a late-night phone conversation between Laftagareen and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Government of Somalia, as confirmed by reliable sources close to both administrations.
The National Consultation Council, which includes the Federal President, the Presidents of the Federal Member States, the Prime Minister, and the Deputy Prime Minister, is convening to discuss critical national issues, including the ongoing constitutional amendment process and potential election models. Laftagareen’s decision to attend marks a significant step toward reducing recent political tensions, particularly as Puntland has severed ties with the federal government.
During the phone call, the two leaders reportedly reached an agreement on Laftagareen’s attendance. Following the NCC meeting, a private session is scheduled between President Hassan Sheikh, Laftagareen, and the Speaker of the House of the People, who also hails from the South West State.
