Lasanod, Somalia (Dawan Africa) — The SSC-Khaatumo Police Command has unveiled 23 suspects accused of gang raping and physically assaulting two young women in Lasanod on the night of Saturday, June 14, 2025.
According to an official statement, the horrific incident occurred around 10:30 PM, prompting an immediate and extensive investigation. Within 48 hours, police apprehended 23 suspects, while one remains at large and is currently being pursued.
The police have already released photographs of some of the suspects and promised to disclose the full names and images of all involved in the coming hours.
Liibaan Barre Ducaale, the spokesperson for the SSC-Khaatumo Police, stated that the security forces are committed to ensuring justice for the victims. “The SSC-Khaatumo Police guarantees the victims’ families and the wider community that the perpetrators will face the full force of the law,” he said.
Additionally, authorities have confirmed a separate investigation into one of the suspects, believed to have been living with youths from whom the suspects allegedly participated in the national secondary school examination.
The case has sparked widespread outrage in SSC-Khaatumo, igniting calls for stronger protections for women and greater accountability for sexual violence. The public, particularly on social media, has responded swiftly and forcefully, demanding transparency and justice for the victims.
