Jigjiga, DDS (Dawan Africa) – The city of Jigjiga has officially launched its Summer Volunteering Program, aimed at empowering local youth to participate in community-driven development and environmental improvement activities.
Hosted at Kaah Secondary School in Jigjiga, the program has seen enthusiastic participation from young people, who engaged in initiatives such as tree planting, blood donation, environmental clean-up, and providing assistance to underprivileged families.
The event garnered strong support from both regional and city-level officials, who stressed the importance of youth involvement in fostering community development and promoting a culture of volunteerism. Regional Minister of Environmental Protection and Rural Land Administration, Muxuyidiin Abdi, spoke at the opening of the program, highlighting its significance.

“Today we conducted a tree-planting campaign and organized a blood donation drive. I hope this initiative will not remain limited to this locality but will expand to regional and national levels,” said Minister Abdi.
Launched on July 5 by the President of the Somali Regional State (DDS), this annual program runs through July and August and actively engages youth across the region in meaningful service to both the community and the environment. Participants also traveled to various parts of the region to raise public awareness and encourage civic responsibility.
This initiative continues to be an important avenue for building a cooperative spirit among the youth while addressing key community needs in the region.
