Kenya, 2 December 2025 - A fresh twist has emerged in the impeachment of Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo after three Members of the County Assembly claimed their names were fraudulently used to back the motion that removed him from office.
The MCAs — Priscilla Nyatichi (nominated), Julius Nyangana (Rigoma), and Elijah Abere (Mekenene) — have filed a complaint at Nyali Police Station in Mombasa, insisting they were nowhere near Nyamira when the vote took place.
Their signatures, they say, were forged to inflate support for the motion that saw 23 of 31 MCAs recorded as having voted to impeach the governor.
Nyatichi told journalists in Mombasa that she was on a family holiday when the assembly carried out the vote and had not authorised anyone to act on her behalf.
“I never sent anyone to vote on my behalf during last week’s impeachment of our governor. I have already reported the matter at Nyali Police Station,” she said.
She added that she intends to take legal action, accusing the assembly of defamation and falsifying her official signature and stamp.
The three MCAs want police to open investigations into what they describe as the “fraudulent and unauthorised use” of their identities.

They allege that assembly officials either permitted or failed to stop the use of forged signatures, a move they believe was meant to meet the threshold for removing Governor Nyaribo.
Their protest deepens the controversy surrounding the impeachment, which was already mired in claims of irregular procedures, pressure on MCAs, and disputes over the governor’s alleged support for a breakaway assembly faction known as Bunge Mashinani.
The motion accused Nyaribo of gross misconduct, abuse of office, irregular appointments, and mismanagement of county funds.
Police in Mombasa have confirmed receipt of the complaint and are expected to summon several Nyamira assembly officials as investigations begin.
Governor Nyaribo’s fate now lies with the Senate, which will review the assembly’s decision and decide whether the impeachment meets constitutional and procedural standards.
