Jowhar (Dawan Africa) – The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIECB) began a four-day training session on Wednesday in Jowhar for voter registration staff in the Hirshabelle regional state. This training is part of the preparations for the upcoming direct elections, as outlined by the National Electoral Commission.
Abdi Adow, a member of the Electoral Commission, officially opened the training and urged participants to take their responsibilities seriously. “You are part of the system that will reform the democracy of Somalia,” he said, emphasizing the importance of their role in building the electoral process.
During the four-day training, participants will be taught about election laws, the use of modern voter registration equipment, personal data protection, and workplace ethics to ensure a transparent and efficient registration process.
Local authorities in Jowhar, including Mayor Osmaan Mahamud Muktar (Baareey) and Hirshabelle Minister of Education, Saciid Amalow, are working closely with the commission to implement the registration activities.
This training comes as the voter registration process has already begun in other cities such as Mogadishu, Dhuusamareeb, and Baydhabo, as part of the National Electoral Commission’s efforts to conduct a one-person-one-vote election across the country.
