Kenya, 20 November 2025 - Top officials from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Thursdays traversed Banissa Constituency to drum up support for its candidate, Mr Ahmed Maalim Hassan, in the forthcoming by-election set for 27 November 2025.
UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar, accompanied by Mandera County leaders, urged residents to turn out in large numbers and back Mr Maalim, saying the party is committed to delivering development, better representation, and improved service delivery to all communities in Banissa.
“UDA will bring development and fairness in resource distribution. We ask you to support our candidate, Ahmed Maalim Hassan, because he understands your needs,” said Hassan.
He highlighted key priorities, including enhancing security, supporting pastoralist livelihoods, improving education opportunities, and ensuring equitable resource allocation across the constituency.
Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif said Banissa residents should prepare to vote for the UDA candidate, noting that nothing stands in the way of the party’s victory.
“There is no obstacle ahead of us. Banissa is ready, and I urge you all to come out in unity and vote for the UDA candidate,” Governor Khalif added.

The governor emphasised the need for peaceful campaigns, urging voters to choose the UDA candidate who will champion their interests both locally and nationally.
Mandera Senator Ali Roba called on residents to reject divisive politics and rally behind the UDA candidate.
For his part, Mr Maalim urged residents to ignore individuals, whom he claimed like spreading false information meant to divide the community.
“We must stand firm and reject lies meant to mislead you. Banissa deserves peace and true leadership,” said Mr Maalim.
Supporters who attended the rally expressed optimism about the UDA candidate, noting the need for strong leadership to address ongoing challenges in the constituency.
The Banissa MP seat fell vacant following the death of former MP Kullow Maalim Hassan.
