November 26, 2025 - The United Nations has issued a stark warning over what it calls “appalling” human rights violations in Sudan, as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) advance deeper into El Fasher and consolidate control in North Kordofan.
Fresh accounts from the UN Human Rights Office suggest that the humanitarian situation in El Fasher, the last major stronghold of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in Darfur, has deteriorated sharply after the RSF claimed to have taken over the army’s 6th Infantry Division.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk described the situation as “extremely precarious”, warning that the risk of large-scale, ethnically motivated violence “is mounting by the day”.
“We are receiving multiple, alarming reports of atrocities, including summary executions,” Türk said. “Urgent and concrete action is needed to protect civilians and ensure safe passage for those trying to flee.”
According to the UN, civilians attempting to escape El Fasher are being shot at, detained, or accused of supporting the army. Videos verified by UN staff reportedly show unarmed men being executed or left dead on the ground after alleged RSF attacks.

The fall of Bara city in North Kordofan on 25 October has produced similarly distressing accounts. Dozens of civilians are reported to have been killed after the RSF accused them of aiding SAF. Local activists say communications blackouts have made it nearly impossible to assess the full scale of casualties.
Sudan’s wider conflict continues to deepen, with aid agencies reporting entire neighbourhoods destroyed, mass displacement across Darfur, and growing fears of famine. The World Food Programme this week warned that more than 5 million people in western Sudan are facing emergency levels of hunger, with markets collapsing and food prices soaring.
In El Fasher, which has been under RSF blockade for 18 months, the UN says five men were executed for attempting to bring food into the city. Humanitarian volunteers are also reported to be among those killed during days of heavy shelling.
Türk urged the RSF to immediately halt reprisals and respect international law, reminding commanders that starvation of civilians is prohibited. He also appealed to countries with influence over Sudan’s warring parties to intervene. “Member States must act to prevent further atrocities and push for an end to this intolerable conflict,” he said.
