Jane Njeri Maina’s early life was marked by humble beginnings in rural Kirinyaga, where she has often described growing up in a family that struggled financially but valued hard work and education. She was born and raised in Kibingoti village in Kiine, Ndia Constituency, and attended local primary schools (including Kiangoma and later Mugi Junior Academy), walking long distances to school and at times braving harsh weather, experiences she says built her resilience and connection with ordinary villagers. Coming from a modest background with parents who did casual work, she has spoken about lacking many comforts but being determined to excel academically, which propelled her to Kabare Girls High School and then into law, shaping her narrative as a self-made leader who understands the struggles of low-income households
Early life
Career
Jane Njeri Maina’s career to date charts a swift ascent from young advocate to prominent reform-minded MP, underpinned by a strong focus on justice, youth, and women’s empowerment. After completing the Kenya School of Law, she built her legal career as a researcher and litigator, rising to Head of Litigation at Mathenge Wambugu & Co. Advocates before becoming Managing Partner at her own firm, Njeri Maina Law Advocates. She then transitioned into politics on a UDA ticket and was elected Kirinyaga County Woman Representative in 2022 at about 28–29 years old, becoming the youngest MP ever elected from Central Kenya with 175,001 votes (around 74.3%). In the National Assembly, she has become known for strong positions on youth and women’s issues, education, and justice—most notably voting NO to the 2024 Finance Bill during the Gen Z protests—and for launching foundations and county programs that provide scholarships, leadership development, and economic empowerment opportunities in Kirinyaga.
Business
Jane Njeri Maina is primarily involved in the legal business through her own law firm. She founded Njeri Maina Law Advocates, where she serves as Managing Partner, after previously heading litigation at Mathenge Wambogu & Co. Advocates and working in other Nairobi firms. Public profiles do not indicate major separate ventures outside law practice and her political role, beyond earlier small-scale mitumba (second-hand clothes) selling, which she has mentioned as part of her hustling journey before establishing her firm and entering Parliament
