Somalia, 1 February 2026 The Somali Future Council, an opposition Coalition, has condemned the federal government for blocking flights from Kismayo and Garowe terming the decision reckless and a threat to peaceful dialogue.
In a statement issued on Sunday the Council said the flights were carrying delegations, media personnel, and security teams accompanying the presidents of Puntland and Jubaland, accusing President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration of being behind the controversial decision.
The Council said the “reckless" decision undermined prior agreements on dialogue arrangements, including approval for security details for visiting officials.

“While we accepted the arrangements proposed by the government in good faith, subsequent actions clearly obstructed the dialogue process, including meetings and statements against the goals of the dialogue, constitutional amendments, and the flight restrictions,” the statement said.
The Council emphasized that it remains committed to honest and constructive dialogue and said it plans to review the path of negotiations moving forward.
The opposition council includes the presidents of Puntland and Jubaland, along with influential figures who have held key positions in past administrations.
