Somalia, 1 February 2026 The Speaker of Somalia’s House of the People on Sunday suspended 18 lawmakers from attending parliamentary sessions after accusing them of disrupting a joint sitting of the country’s two legislative chambers last week.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Speaker of the House of the People, Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur ‘Madoobe’ said the lawmakers attempted to obstruct a joint session held on Jan. 28, actions he said violated parliamentary rules of procedure and threatened security and order.
Those suspended are Hassan Abdi Ismail, Ahmed Mohamud Jama, Mohamed Abdirahman Ahmed, Abdinur Ali Adam, Mohamed Bashir Ali, Mohamed Barre Mohamud, Dahir Amin Jesow, Mowlid Abdi Mohamud, Sadam Mohamud Abdi, Mursal Mohamed Khalif, Abdirisak Hassan Ahmed, Ahmed Adan Ahmed, Mohamed Sheikh Noor Osman, Sadaq Abdullahi Abdi, Omar Yusuf Galadid, Duniya Osman Yusuf, Mohamed Adam Dini and Farah Moalim Abdi Bishaar, the statement said.
The suspended lawmakers will be barred from attending 12 joint sessions of both chambers as well as regular sittings of the House of the People, starting from Feb. 2, according to the decision.

The speaker said the action was taken in line with parliamentary bylaws that grant his office authority to maintain order, ensure the smooth conduct of parliamentary business, and safeguard the security and dignity of lawmakers and staff.
In addition, 11 other lawmakers were issued what the statement described as a “final warning” over their conduct during the same incident. Those lawmakers are Abdirashid Mohamed Hidig, Ali Mahdi Mohamed, Daud Abdikarim Omar, Abdirashid Jire Khalinle, Adar Hared Jibril, Faduma Farah Adan, Abdikadir Hussein Abdi, Said Ali Muse, Yusuf Mohamed Ismail, Ahmed Osman Ibrahim and Yusuf Hussein Ahmed.
The parliamentary security command was instructed to enforce the decision in accordance with the rules of procedure, the statement added.
