Ethiopia,19 November 2025 – African Union Commission Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf and Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timotheos, held extensive discussions on key peace, security, and regional developments across the continent.
The two sides reviewed the rapidly evolving regional landscape, underscoring the need for the African Union and Regional Economic Communities to continue playing a central role in preventive diplomacy, conflict prevention, humanitarian response, and sustainable development.
They also emphasized the importance of strengthening continental cooperation to address growing security and humanitarian challenges.
Both officials expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Sudan, stressing the urgent need for a ceasefire and the resumption of a political process that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people.

Regarding South Sudan, they highlighted the importance of all parties fully honoring their commitments under existing agreements to prevent renewed instability and support lasting peace.
The talks also covered developments in the Sahel region, where the two sides emphasized the need for countries that have experienced unconstitutional changes in government to adopt clear and credible roadmaps for a swift return to constitutional order and regional stability.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to deepening cooperation between the African Union and Ethiopia, and to supporting efforts aimed at advancing peace, security, and development across the African continent.
