Azerbaijan, 29 December 2025 The Republic of Azerbaijan has reiterated its full support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia within its internationally recognized borders.
In a statement issued by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on recent developments in Somalia, Baku said that recognition of the “Somaliland” region contradicts the norms and principles of international law as well as the Charter of the United Nations.

The statement noted that Azerbaijan itself has endured a painful history of foreign military occupation and separatism in parts of its territory, in clear violation of international law, underscoring its sensitivity to similar challenges faced by other states.
Guided by these principles and its own historical experience, Azerbaijan affirmed that it remains firmly committed to the preservation of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of all countries. The Foreign Ministry also called on the international community to act responsibly and in full compliance with international law when addressing issues related to Somalia and similar situations elsewhere.
