Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – The Banaadir Regional Administration today officially launched the construction of a new paved road in Hodan District, Mogadishu. According to the administration, the project is part of ongoing efforts to improve the city’s infrastructure and ease public mobility.
The new road, which will connect Abdiqasim Road and Banaadir Road, is being built by a locally based company known as Kulmiye Construction, according to officials.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the Governor of Banaadir and Mayor of Mogadishu, Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), alongside other regional officials, traditional elders, and members of the community.
Speaking at the event, Governor Muungaab stated that the administration’s goal is to reinvest public revenue back into visible and essential services—chief among them road infrastructure.
“We are committed to returning taxpayer money back to the public by investing in infrastructure such as roads,” said Muungaab.
He also announced that the administration will begin reopening roads that have been blocked for non-security reasons, as part of efforts to reduce congestion and improve mobility across the city.
“Roads that are not affected by security concerns will be reopened to ease movement for Mogadishu’s residents,” he said, urging the public to cooperate with security institutions.
Although no details were shared regarding the project’s cost or completion timeline, the Banaadir administration described the road project as part of a broader plan to reduce the city’s long-standing infrastructure deficit.
