Djibouti, October 16, 2025 — Djibouti’s customs authorities, in collaboration with the National Police, have thwarted a drug trafficking attempt involving four couriers who allegedly ingested cocaine pellets to smuggle the narcotics into the country.
The Djibouti National Police reported on Wednesday that the operation resulted in the seizure of 119 pellets of cocaine, with an estimated market value of 27 million Djiboutian francs. The interception took place earlier this week, following coordinated surveillance and inspection efforts at key checkpoints.
Captain Houssein Mohamed Abdou, Commander of the National Police’s Quit Brigade, stated that four suspects are currently facing prosecution for the transport, possession, and concealment of narcotics.
Authorities say the case highlights the evolving methods used by traffickers and the continued vigilance of Djibouti’s customs and police forces in combating cross-border drug smuggling.
