Qatar, 7 December 2025 — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sunday led a high-level roundtable at the Doha Forum to discuss strategies for sustaining Somalia’s progress in governance, security, and state-building.
The session brought together senior Somali officials and international partners, including EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa Annette Weber, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, and African Union Special Representative for Somalia Amb. El Hadji Ibrahima Diene. Participants explored ways to enhance coordination, ensure predictable funding, and support Somali-led stabilization efforts.
President Mohamud emphasized Somalia’s reform agenda, preparations for direct elections, and the urgency of climate adaptation measures.
He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to building a resilient, democratic state and contributing constructively as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Amb. Diene highlighted that AUSSOM faces funding gaps, noting that shortfalls in donor contributions threaten the mission’s operational capacity, including troop payments, logistics, and stabilization support. He urged international partners to provide predictable and sustainable financing under Somalia’s national frameworks.
The Doha discussions come amid increasing debate over the sustainability of African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia’s (AUSSOM) funding. In June, the United States urged European and African partners to take on a greater share of the mission’s financial burden.
