Djibouti, 22 January 2026 – Djibouti on Wednesday launched a cleaner diesel fuel known as Gasoil Premium, as part of efforts to improve fuel quality and reduce environmental pollution, the Ministry of Energy said.
The new fuel is being imported by the state-run International Hydrocarbon Society of Djibouti (SIHD) as the primary provider for the national market.
The fuel is treated with additives designed to clean injectors, reduce engine noise, and prevent corrosion. The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources said the initiative aligns with government commitments to environmental protection and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
"This initiative... aims not only to reduce the impact of gas emissions... but also and above all to make available to users more efficient, cleaner (fuel) better adapted to the current requirements of diesel vehicles," the ministry said in a statement.

Energy Minister Yonis Ali Guedi said the introduction of the product was part of a broader policy to modernize the country’s petroleum sector.
Officials said the new fuel would also facilitate easier technical inspections for motorists and extend the lifespan of vehicle engines due to improved lubrication and anti-foam properties.
The government is currently developing a major liquid bulk port and storage terminal at Damerjog to bolster its position as a regional distribution hub for the Horn of Africa.
