Egypt, 5 January 2026 Egypt and Saudi Arabia on Monday reiterated their firm support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during high-level talks in Cairo, amid growing regional tensions.
The discussions took place between Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, highlighting the two countries’ ongoing strategic coordination on regional issues.
In a joint statement, the ministers strongly condemned any unilateral actions that threaten Somalia’s sovereignty, specifically rejecting Israeli recognition of Somaliland, describing it as a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

They emphasized that such moves undermine peace and security in the strategically vital Horn of Africa region.
The ministers reaffirmed the Egyptian and Saudi stance in support of Somalia’s unity, warning against any attempts to partition the country or undermine its independence.
The talks also covered other regional issues, including developments in Gaza, Yemen, and Sudan, with both sides agreeing to maintain close coordination on diplomatic and humanitarian efforts.
