Kenya, 23 November 2025 - Democracy for the Citizen Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has urged residents of Mbeere North to show up in large numbers on polling day, saying their voice at the ballot will shape the future of their constituency and the wider Mt Kenya region.
Speaking on Sunday in Ishiara, Gachagua said that no voter should feel intimidated or discouraged, promising that his team would ensure the poll is peaceful and transparent.
The former Deputy President said he was personally committed to “protecting every single vote,” insisting that the community’s choice must be respected.
Gachagua rallied support for Newton Kariuki - Karish - the Democratic Party (DP) candidate under the United Opposition, saying a win for him would send a strong message to President William Ruto about the political weight of the region.
He described Mbeere North as “a constituency that has now captured national attention,” noting that the by-election had put the area in the spotlight more than ever before.
He accused government actors of attempting to intimidate voters through hired groups, urging the president’s allies to conduct themselves with “decency, transparency and respect for democracy.”
Gachagua told residents not to bow to fear or financial handouts, saying voters were wiser and more determined than politicians assumed.
“Do not let anyone buy your conscience. This election belongs to the people of Mbeere North. You have a date with destiny, and your vote is your power,” he said.

The DCP leader also appealed for calm, saying peace should remain the foundation of the democratic process regardless of political differences.
He encouraged residents to turn up early, vote peacefully, and return home knowing their decision would be safeguarded.
Gachagua was accompanied by local leaders including former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi, and several other political heavyweights, who pledged to work together to ensure a smooth and credible election.
"We are putting the final touches on our campaign and proudly rallying the support of Newton Kariuki, aka Karish, as the next Member of Parliament for Mbeere North," Gachagua said.
Karish's main opponent is Leornard Wamuthende of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The by-election happens on Thursday, 27 November 2025.
