1 January 2026 - Orphans in the Kalafot community received a major boost as the family convened a landmark two-day retreat in Buna Town, Wajir County, uniting professionals, religious leaders, elders, youth, and opinion shapers in dialogue and action.
A highlight was the approval of 40 full high-school scholarships for orphaned students in the 2026 programme, demonstrating a strong commitment to education as a route out of vulnerability.
The retreat also saw the disbursement of KSh 600,000 via the Kalafot Orphans Support Initiative (KOSI), with cheques issued ahead of the school year to cover fees and essentials for secondary school orphans, ensuring uninterrupted learning and renewed hope for families.
Participants examined transparent 2025 KOSI financial reports, highlighting accountability in handling resources dedicated to orphan welfare.
The initiative reflects the community's enduring tradition of shared responsibility, offering financial, emotional, and social support to children who have lost parents.
Other outcomes included measures to enhance family harmony, reconciliation to mend divisions, and the creation of a 12-member Governing Council to manage social, economic, political, and religious affairs, including continued orphan assistance and livelihood schemes.
