Nairobi(Mogadishu24)-The governments of Kenya and the UK reiterated their commitment to strengthen bilateral cooperation in defense and security, education, and environmental sectors on Tuesday.
These discussions took place during the visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla's visit at State House, Nairobi.
Kenya's President, William Samoi Ruto, acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Kenya and the UK, which has facilitated successful trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
"The Kenya-UK historic ties have grown steadily, deeper and stronger, enabling the two countries to achieve stable progress in trade and investments," said President William Ruto.
The President reaffirmed Kenya's dedication to collaborating with the UK government in key sectors, leading prosperous future partnerships.
"We will work together to build an even stronger and more prosperous future featuring cooperation in strategic areas such as defence and security, education and climate change for our shared prosperity," Ruto added.
In a separate meeting, the King accompanied by UK delegation including Hon. James Cleverly, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom held discussions with Kenya Defense Minister, Hon. Adan Barre Duale and other cabinet Secretaries at Serena Hotel, Nairobi.
The King Charles III and his delegation are expected to have engagements with several key leaders, during his four days tour in Kenya.
“Together with other Cabinet Secretaries, we had a meeting with King Charles III and his delegation including Hon. James Cleverly, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom. We deliberated on a range of concerns, covering all ministries and departments of our government,” said Hon. Duale said.
“On the part of the Ministry of Defence, we explored a number of issues touching on our already existing Defense Cooperation Agreement, counter terrorism and insurgency center, training and development of special marine squadrons and possible ways to further and strengthen our cooperation,” he added.
Kenya’s regional and international influence has been growing as it actively participates in global and regional matters, such as security and peace.
Two weeks ago, the governments of Kenya and China signed multiple agreements covering various sectors, including communication, technology, medicine, electricity, and road construction.
Kenya has also signed a five-year joint defense cooperation framework with the United States of America, which will enable the two countries to enhance compatibility and work together for regional peace and stability.
