Kenya, 9 October 2025 - After 35 years under family leadership, Naivas Supermarket has announced a major leadership change to coincide with its 35th anniversary. Andreas von Paleske will become the new Chief Executive Officer, effective November 1, succeeding longtime CEO and founding family member, David Kimani.
Von Paleske, who has been with Naivas for the past eight years as the Chief of Strategy, has played a key role in shaping the company’s growth strategy. He is widely credited with driving Naivas’ nationwide expansion and modernization initiatives.
Under the joint leadership of Von Paleske and Kimani, Naivas has expanded to over 100 branches, cementing its position as Kenya’s leading retail chain in terms of revenue and footprint.
In a statement released earlier this week, the Mukuha family confirmed that although Kimani is stepping away from day-to-day operations, he will continue to be actively involved in the business alongside family members Peter and Charles.
“Having achieved several landmark milestones in the past few years, and with a strong leadership team in place, I could not think of a better opportunity than our 35th anniversary to pass on the baton to Andreas,” Kimani said in a statement on Tuesday.
Naivas International Chairman Arnaud Lagesse praised Kimani’s leadership, calling him a central figure in building one of Kenya’s biggest corporate success stories.
“David’s role in laying the foundations of one of Kenya’s corporate success stories is truly commendable. With Andreas, we have the right leader to take the business to even greater heights. His appointment ensures continuity and positions the company for its next phase of growth,” Lagesse said.
Before joining Naivas, von Paleske held senior roles at private equity firms Lion Capital, Africa Platform Capital, and Actis. He boasts over 25 years of experience in investment, operations, and strategic development in the consumer and retail sectors.
Naivas Limited was registered on July 24, 1990 and previously operated as Rongai Self Service Stores Limited, serving mainly in Rongai in Nakuru County.
