Kenya, 3 December 2025 - Residents of Kisumu will on Friday be given a brief opportunity to view the body of Beryl Achieng Odinga, daughter of Kenya’s first Vice-President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, when her remains arrive at Kisumu International Airport en route to her final resting place.
Beryl Achieng Odinga, who passed away quietly after a life deliberately kept away from the political limelight that has long defined her family, will be laid to rest on Saturday at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, the Odinga family’s ancestral burial ground in Bondo, Siaya County.
According to the programme, her body will be released from Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi on Friday 5 December 2025, taken to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for a short farewell by close family members, and then flown to Kisumu.
After the brief public viewing at the airport in Kisumu between 10am and 12 noon, the cortege will travel by road to Bondo.
In Bondo, the body will be received at the place of worship, where an overnight vigil featuring prayers will be held ahead of Saturday’s funeral service.
On Saturday, 6 December 2025, the programme will commence with the arrival of the body at Nyamira Girls High School at 9:30 a.m., followed by tributes and a eulogy.
At 1:00 p.m., a funeral service will be held, after which there will be a procession to the graveside for a private burial.

The final burial rites will take place at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, where Beryl will be interred alongside her parents and siblings, including the late Raila Odinga.
Despite belonging to one of Kenya’s most prominent political families, Beryl chose a path of professional service rather than politics.
She is warmly remembered for becoming the first Black Town Clerk of Mutare in Zimbabwe, where she earned respect for her diligence and integrity in law, education, and civic administration.
Coming shortly after other recent losses in the Odinga family, the burial is expected to be a solemn, modest affair that reflects Beryl’s understated personality, while offering the community in Siaya County a moment of mourning and collective healing.
Dignitaries and long-time family associates are expected to attend, but organisers have stressed that the ceremonies will remain simple and dignified.
Beryl passed away on 25 November 2025, just 41 days after the demise of her brother Raila.
