3 December 2025 - Mandera County on Wednesday marked the International Day for Persons with Disabilities with a strong call for greater inclusivity and practical action to improve the lives of people living with disabilities.
Held under the theme “Fostering a Disability-Inclusive Society for Advancing Social Progress”, the event brought together government officials, community leaders, and persons with disabilities to address ongoing challenges and chart a way forward.
Mandera County Coordinator for Disability, Adan Yakub, urged increased awareness and stressed that the community has a collective duty to guarantee access to education, healthcare, and employment for persons with disabilities.
He called on county leaders to factor disability needs into every programme.
Deputy County Commissioner Solomon Cheboton reaffirmed the national and county government’s commitment to inclusivity, describing persons with disabilities as integral members of society.
He appealed to families not to hide children with disabilities and instead to utilise available county services, while encouraging all persons with disabilities to register for the Social Health Assistance programme to reduce health risks.
