Laascaanood (Dawan Africa) – Ali Yusuf Ali (Hoosh), the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation of Somalia, officially opened a crucial conference on Sunday aimed at finalizing the formation of the SSC-Khaatumo Regional Administration. The event is being held in Laascaanood, the capital of the Sool region.
The conference gathered key officials from the SSC-Khaatumo leadership, members of Somalia’s Federal Parliament, traditional elders, civil society representatives, and delegates from the Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn (SSC) regions.
In his keynote address, Minister Hoosh reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to establishing a legitimate regional administration for the SSC areas, stating:“The Federal Government of Somalia firmly believes that lasting peace and development in the SSC regions can only be achieved through a complete and functional federal member state that is officially integrated into the federal system of the Somali Republic.”
SSC-Khaatumo leader Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali (Firdhiye) also addressed the gathering, stressing the significance of the conference in unifying local efforts to build a representative administration. He highlighted the ongoing integration between SSC-Khaatumo and the Maakhir administrations.“Today we are gathered for the official launch of the conference finalizing the SSC-Khaatumo Administration, aimed at unifying Khaatumo and Maakhir. This will reshape the political structure, improve security, and boost economic development across the region,” said Firdhiye.
Despite the conference’s positive tone, there are concerns regarding political trust between the SSC leadership, local communities, and candidates vying for positions in the new administration. Some delegates have expressed cautious optimism, noting that without inclusive dialogue, underlying tensions could impede progress.
The conference is expected to last several days, and its success will largely depend on how effectively internal disputes are managed and whether all segments of the local population are adequately represented.
