Nakuru Level 6 Hospital has taken a major leap in medical technology with the installation of an advanced artificial intelligence-powered CT scan machine, designed to transform diagnosis and treatment for patients across the Rift Valley region.
Formerly known as Nakuru County Referral Hospital, the facility now joins a select group of regional centers equipped with next-generation imaging technology capable of detecting a wide range of medical conditions including cancers, cardiovascular diseases, brain and lung disorders, internal injuries and musculoskeletal complications.
Hospital officials said the new system will double the facility’s scanning capacity, allowing it to serve over 100 patients daily, up from the current 50. This is expected to drastically reduce waiting times for diagnostic services and enable faster treatment decisions, especially for critical cases that depend on timely imaging results.
The AI-enabled CT machine performs scans in just two to three seconds, compared to the six to seven seconds taken by the previous model. Its enhanced precision and speed will help clinicians capture clearer images, improving the accuracy of diagnoses and supporting better patient outcomes.
Notably, the hospital will now offer advanced cardio screening, a service that previously required patients to be referred to major hospitals in Nairobi or even abroad in countries such as India. This milestone is expected to make specialized healthcare more accessible and affordable for thousands of patients across the region.
According to the hospital’s management, a team of biomedical engineers and specialists will train radiologists and technicians on operating and maintaining the new equipment to ensure sustainable and efficient use. “Our goal is to maximize the machine’s potential and continue elevating the quality of healthcare services offered at Nakuru Level 6,” said one senior official.
With patients referred from at least 14 neighboring counties, the hospital is positioning itself as a leading diagnostic and treatment hub for the central and Rift Valley regions. The AI-driven CT scanner underscores Nakuru Level 6 Hospital’s growing role in leveraging technology to bridge healthcare gaps, reduce diagnostic delays, and enhance patient care for thousands who rely on public health facilities.
