November 25, 2025 - Rapid Support Forces has announced an agreement to a 3-month humanitarian truce that includes a cessation of hostilities.
In a televised address on Monday the forces commander Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedti” said the agreement “marks the first step toward ending hostilities and achieving a comprehensive political solution that addresses the root causes of the Sudanese crisis.”
He said that he accepted a nationwide truce in response to an initiative by the U.S. President Donald Trump and the efforts of the Quartet countries.
“In response to international efforts, foremost among them the initiative of US President Donald Trump, we announce the agreement of the Rapid Support Forces and its allies to a three-month truce and a cessation of military operations during the truce period in order to protect civilians and improve the humanitarian situation.” he says.
The foreign ministers of the Quartet, which includes the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, on September 12, presented a roadmap that included a set of principles to end the war in Sudan, including the establishment of a humanitarian truce for an initial period of three months, which would lead to a permanent ceasefire, and then the launch of a comprehensive and transparent transition process.
The RSF announcement comes a day after Sovereignty Council chair and army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan confirmed receiving the latest negotiating proposal from the Quartet mechanism, aimed at stopping the conflict. The Quartet’s roadmap, released in September, calls for a three-month humanitarian truce leading to a permanent ceasefire and political negotiations.
Hemedti also announced his agreement to establish a field monitoring mechanism for the humanitarian truce, overseen by the Quartet countries, the African Union and IGAD, to ensure its implementation and the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to all those in need.
He further pledged to ensure unimpeded humanitarian access and vowed that “No perpetrator will escape justice, regardless of their position or rank.”
