Somalia, 15 October 2025 — Save the Children has pledged to work closely with Somalia’s Human Rights Commission to ensure children have access to safety, education, and development opportunities.
In a statement published on its website yesterday, the organization welcomed the approval of the National Independent Human Rights Commission by the Somali Parliament on 11 October 2025.
Save the Children’s Country Director in Somalia, Mohamed Mohamud Hassan, said the organization is committed to working closely with the Commission on issues concerning children.
“The approval of the Commission is a historic achievement. We are committed to working closely to strengthen the monitoring, strategies, and policies for the rights of Somali children,” Hassan stated.
The establishment of the Commission is expected to reinforce accountability, independent oversight, and the protection of all citizens’ rights, including children. Save the Children, which has been operating in Somalia since 1951, pledged to collaborate with national institutions to ensure Somali children are protected, receive education, and are empowered equally.
